Disco Barre™
An intelligent, technique driven movement method rooted in precision, embodied strength and rhythm.
Shaped by dance, musicality and underground club culture, Disco Barre™ combines deep physical conditioning with atmosphere, musicality and the emotional energy of the dancefloor.

Disco Barre™ is an intelligent, technique-driven method combining ballet-based conditioning, dance-inspired movement, strength training, isometric holds and cardio intervals through sculptural sequences using weights, resistance bands and Pilates balls.
Whilst no two classes are ever the same, the method follows a carefully structured approach built around repetition, endurance and progressive muscular fatigue, where small, precise movements create deep transformation over time.
Rooted in the foundations of barre whilst moving beyond traditional fitness frameworks, Disco Barre™ develops strength, stamina, coordination and deep muscular control through rhythm-led movement and highly focused physical work.
The focus is not simply aesthetic, but the cultivation of greater physical awareness, resilience and presence through the body.

Disco Barre™ began in Dalston in the early 2010s inside a raw East London gym where the original barres were built from scaffolding.
Created initially as a pre party class for people more connected to dance floors than traditional gym culture, the classes quickly developed a cult following, bringing together dancers, creatives, DJs, artists and East London nightlife energy in a way that felt entirely distinct from the fitness world at the time.
Founder Sophia Ritchie had fallen in love with house music as a teenager and immersed herself in London’s club scene from an early age. Alongside a background in contemporary dance and movement, Disco Barre™ became a natural merging of these worlds: movement, physical intensity and underground culture.
What began as a small underground class soon evolved into a movement method recognised for its unique atmosphere, deeply curated music and technically demanding yet highly embodied approach to strength and conditioning.
“I love music so decided to create a class that mixes exercise with a raw, dirty, party vibe”.

Music remains central to the Disco Barre™ experience.
Founder Sophia Ritchie fell in love with house music as a teenager and immersed herself in London’s club scene from an early age. Whilst house music remained a constant throughout her life, later years brought a growing fascination with the disco, soul and underground dance culture that shaped its foundations.
The sound of Disco Barre™ moves fluidly through early and contemporary house, underground disco, soul, boogie, Balearic and rhythm led sound, with the music curated as carefully as the movement itself.
Still deeply connected to dance music culture, Sophia continues to spend time researching emerging DJs, producers and new releases alongside older influences, ensuring the musical identity of Disco Barre™ feels informed, current and rooted in genuine taste rather than nostalgia.
“Founder, Sophie Ritchie spends as much time researching the music as she does on the class, paying homage to the Paradise Garage dancefloor with her Larry Levan-inspired selections. It’s not strictly disco: there’s house, acid and ’80s soul and boogie in the mix too.”
